Underwater
Recovery
-
First things first. A
general plan must be constructed to determine the number of divers and
skill sets that will be required. This will be based, in part, on
water depth, visibility, size of the object (or objects) to be
recovered. The size, number and type of surface support vessels
needed.
-
Selection of appropriate
underwater and topside personnel
to to fill specific recovery skill sets.
-
Selection of equipment
needed to perform the underwater mission including, but not limited to, dry or
wet suits, communications equipment, size and number of lift bags (if
appropriate), marker buoys with anchors, underwater DFE, breathing gas
(or gasses) for divers, underwater decompression equipment (as
required), etc.
-
Surface recovery equipment,
for surface recovery from the water, which may be as simple as a rope
and bad, a boat mounted davit or for large items a crane.
-
Water conditions at
proposed time of mission, including wave height and period,
visibility, surface traffic, etc.
